Vercingétorix
opéra
projected
Libretto: Emile Delerot (1834-1912), director of the Bibliothèque de Versailles, translator of the Goethe-Eckermann Conversations. His 177-page five-act drama Vercingétorix was published in 1864.
Project: 1869–70. Four librettos called Vercingétorix were submitted to the 1867 Concours d’opéra (F-Pan F21 1325). The authors were Emile Stein, Charles Sorbets, P. Rival, and Charles-Marie Laurent. It appears that Bizet was approached by Delerot about this project. He was also impressed by a novel on the life of Vercingetorix by Henri Martin, published in October 1869. There is no evidence that any music was composed for this project.
