Rama
opéra en quatre actes
projected
Libretto: (Etienne-)Eugène Crépet (1827–1892) editor of the Revue nationale et étrangère which published Bizet’s only article in August 1867. He was an early admirer of Baudelaire. Bizet’s Sonnet is dedicated to his wife, who was the daughter of Eugénie Garcia. The opera was to be based on the Indian epic Ramayana, in which Rama wages war against the giant Ravan, the fierce enemy of gods and men who carries off Rama's wife, Sita, and who is slain by Rama.
Project: c. 1869–71. The Revue et gazette musicale of 20-2-1870 reported that Bizet was working on it at that time. It was abandoned in 1871.
