Composition: by December 1856, when it was published in Le Magasin des familles. The origin of the title is unknown. A four-act opera of that name by the Ernst Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was played in Gotha in 1851 and in Brussels in 1855, and published by Glöggl in Vienna. In the opera Casilda is a gypsy.
