Massenet, Scènes de bal

piano solo
Original work:

Jules Massenet (1842–1912), Scènes de bal, op. 17, for piano duet, composed in 1869–70 (despite the entry 'Pesth, 1865' on the title page) and published by Hartmann under the titles Six danses (pl. no. G.H. 475, nos 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6) and Deux berceuses (pl. no. G.H. 476, no. 3) in c. 1870 and as a set under the title Scènes de bal (pl. no. G.H. 476) probably in 1873-1874. The Scènes de bal included a seventh piece, Marche finale, missing in Bizet's transcription; the piano solo arrangement of this movement was made by Vidal (MS at F-Pn) but never published.

Transcription: perhaps c. 1871-72, at the same time as the Scènes hongroises, for publication by Hartmann.
