Massenet, Sarabande espagnole
piano solo
Original work:
Jules Massenet (1842–1912), Sarabande
espagnole du XVIme siècle, for
small orchestra, published by Hartmann in 1875, the only surviving section from the music for
Un Drame sous Philippe II, drama in four acts by
Georges de Porto-Riche, played at the
Théâtre de l'Odéon on 14-4-1875.
Transcription:
The probability that this transcription is by Bizet is
slight, since the two published editions state that the
transcription is by Massenet himself. Furthermore there
is an autograph manuscript in Massenet's hand
(Sotheby's, London, 29-5-2012). But the register of the Dépôt légal
for 1875 assigns the transcription to Bizet.
