Original work: Charles Gounod (1818–93), Le Vendredi-Saint, chœur à 4 et à 6 voix sans accompagnement on a poem by Alexis Badou, published by Choudens in 1865, pl. no. A.C. 1183.
Transcription: 1868. Bizet was required to add a piano accompaniment to a work originally composed for unaccompanied chorus.
Autograph score: Private collection. 12-stave paper oblong, 2 f., 4 p., with an extra strip attached to the last page for the last six bars. No title or composer given. The name ‘Bizet’ is written across the top corner of p. 1. A copyist prepared the manuscript by entering an element of the chorus part on one stave, leaving two staves empty for the piano part. The plate number A.C. 1726 has been entered at the foot of p. 1.
