Gounod, Symphonie no. 2
piano duet
Original work:
Charles Gounod (1818–93), Deuxième Symphonie en Mi
bémol, first played by the Conservatoire's Société des
Jeunes Artistes on 10-1-1856.
The full score and parts were published soon after by
Choudens (pl. nos. A.C.
248 and A.C. 247).
Transcription:
It is not clear whether Bizet transcribed this work
or not. Having made a four-hand transcription of the first symphony, it is
certainly likely that he was asked to do the same for the second. It was
probably this work to which Bizet's letter of 1862 to Choudens refers. It
was published in 1865, along with the piano solo
arrangement, although the arranger's name is not given on either.
