Forme-state analysis

Forme-state analysis refers here to differences (variants) between printed versions of a text (witnesses) within a single edition. These variants are organized according to the forme on which they appear, and individual variants are sorted into corresponding states based on the order in which the editors believe that the changes were made. You will find the variants sorted into columns by state, with the witnesses in which those variants appear listed below. Click on the name of a witness to see an image of that page, if there is one available. When the editors have made comments for particular variants, they are available by clicking the comments link to the left of each signature. In some cases forme-state analysis has not yet been completed, and in those cases variants will not be assigned to a state.
