From correspondence: "the volumes are in their original bindings, but the spines have all been reinforced with what appears to be some kind of black bookbinding tape. They were circulating at one point, and volumes 1-3 still have the stamps to prove it. They're in okay condition, considering their age, but the binding is somewhat brittle."
