Published Location: London
Published date: 1612
Copynotes: It seems that this copy might be STC 23084. Fondren catalogues it as a 1611 edition, but STC 23083.7 and 23084 are easily mistaken for 1611 Works (of which they are reprints). Librarian Lee Pecht says (July 27, 2009), "I've also checked the 1611 edition of Spenser's complete works and tried to compare it to the others listed. I can tell you that our does not have a general title page, but does have what appears to be a dedication page. The colophon in ours: 16012 London, Printed by H.L. for Matthew Lownes." Based on the colophon date (1612), I've guessed the appropriate STC entry.
Editionnotes: In verse. Printer’s name from STC. [London] : Printed by H[umphrey] L[ownes] for Mathew Lownes, Anno Dom. 1611 [i.e. 1612 or 1613] A second reissue of the 1609 edition. Part 1 still has the 1611 cancel title page and conjugate dedication of the first reissue (STC 23083.3); B3r stanza 1 begins "Yoūg knight". Q5-6 of part 1, bearing respectively the 1609 title page and first leaf of text of part 2, are canceled. Part 2 has been reprinted, with a title page dated either 1612 or 1613 (stop-press variant). The R3r catchword now reads "And". Pagination and register are continuous. In some copies (such as the one on the microfilm) the 1612/1613 title page has been canceled instead of the 1609 one. The last leaf is blank. Signatures: A⁶(-A1+pi²) B-P⁶ Q⁴ R-2H⁶. Issued with STC 23086.3, 23093.5, 23077.3, and 23087. Identified as STC 23084 on UMI microfilm.
