Title: The Faerie Qveene, disposed into XII bookes, fashioning twelue morall vertues
Repository: Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, U of Toronto
Shelfmark: stc 00369 (Copy 1)
Published by: H. L.
Published for: M. Lownes
Published Location: London
Published date: 1609
Copynotes: Fisher stc copies 1-2: Copies of the first folio editions of Spenser's Works vary, in part, because the publisher of Spenser's different works, Mathew Lownes, mixed leftover old stock with new stock, and because he reissued new issues with original imprints. As such, copies of The Faerie Queene dated 1609 are sometimes 1609 printings and sometimes not. Copy 1 has a 1609 t.p. for part one and two, but carries features unique to the 1611 reissue of the work; Copy 2 has a 1613 t.p. for part two, but retains the 1609 titlepage for part one. Fisher stc copy 1: Matches description of STC 23083, except that B3r, stanza 1, begins "youg knight" and R3r catchword is "She" as described in 23083.3. Pages 8 and 311 numbered 10 and 31 respectively. Final blank wanting.
Editionnotes: "Tvvo cantos of mutabilitie": p. 353-363. By Edmund Spenser, whose name appears on prelim. p. [2]. First word of title is xylographic. In verse. Signatures: A-Y6, 2A-2H6, 2I4. The last leaf is blank. The second part has special t.p. dated 1613; on p. [187]; pagination and register are continuous.
