Robert Stubbs by Hudson his attorney complains of William
Bard of a plea of trespass for that the said William
Bard on the first day of September in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven
with force and arms at St Louis in the county
of St Louis made an assault upon the said Nancy
Robert Stubbs to wit at the County aforesaid and there
and then imprisoned the said Robert Nancy Stubbs and
kept & detainedhim the said Robert Stubbs in person there without
any reasonable or probable cause whatever for a long
space of time to wit for the space of one month
the next following contrary to the laws of this state and
against the will of the said Robert Stubbs and
the said Robert Stubbs avers that before and at
the time he was and still is a free person and
that the said Willian Bard held and stillholds
him in slavery and other wrongs to the said
Robert Stubbs then and there did against
the peace of this state and to the damage
of the said Robert Stubbs one hundred dollars
therefore hebrings his suit
