To the Honorable Like & Laulely Judge of the
Circuit Count of St Louis County .

Sally an infant mulatto girl of the age of
thirteen year by her next friend Samuel Willi
respect fully represents, that on the fourteenth day of
February eighteen hundred and eighteen, a certain
agreement in writing was made signed sealed and
Executed by and between Marie Thereze Brazean
widow of Joseph Brazeau deccased of the one part
and Baptiste Duchauguette and Ganie Therese his
wife of the other part, in which among other things
it is stated a follows, towit; ``Whereas Joseph Brazeau
by tes tamintarq act, dated the fifth of may, one
thousand leven hundred and ninety eight, proved and
approved the twenty sixth of November and
deposited in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court
of st Lovis Country Missouri Territory, it is saided declared
by the ninth article of the said Testament a follows,
to wit; ``Ninthly, as to the of all the property
which he will leave on the day of his decease, the
present tes tament fulfilled, he gives them to Marie
Brazeau his , in consideration of the attachment
which he has for her, and of that which she has always
him & of her good conduct, he gives & beyueathy
them to her in been gift, naming her to that effect
his universal legatee, to be disposed of by her as of
things to her properly belonging, after the
decease however of marie Therese Brazeau my wife
to whom I have abandonned the enjoyment thereof
during her life time.'' whereas the said Marie
Therese widow of Joseph Brazeau deceased day not
feel herself in a condition to sender available the
property abandoned by the said Joseph Brazeau
deceased, and is content to abandon the Care & direction
of the same to Baptiste Duchouguette and to the said
marie Thereze Brazeau of the said deceased &
wife of the said Bapstite Duhoguette, the universal
legatee named in the laid nineth article of the ssaid
tament, the said Bpatiste & marie here present &
accepting, know all those who shall lee these
presents that the said marie therese widow of
Joseph Brazeau deceased of the one part & the said
Baptiste Duchouguette & marie Therese his wife of
the other part, have Corcuanted and agreed as follows,
to wit: That the said marie therese widow of the
said Joseph Brazeau deceased, for and in Consideration
of the seem of three hundred and fifty dollar, lawful
money of the United Italy which the said Baptiste &
marie his wife, oligate, promise & engage themselves
to pay each year to the said widow Brazeau , during
her lifetime, the first payment of which shall come-
mence in one of ear from the date of these presents, and
also for and in consideration of the promises,
conventions & cndition herein after lated
and mentioined, which the said Baptisted marie
his wife provise, obligate & engage themselves to
fulfile, in all their exlent, force & tenor, the said
widow of Joseph Brazeau deceased, has
color, Ceded, quiteclaimed , abandoned
& transferred, as in fact and by these presents, she
, , quiteclaim reling wishes, abandon &
hundred to the said Baptiste Duchouguette and
marie Therese his wife, all the rights, telles, actions
pretensions properties which she has and
may have to the property left by the laid Joseph
Brazean deceased, and to the enjoyment of the said
property left to her by the said testament, during her
lifetime, with the exception of the reservation herein
after made, to that the laid Baptiste & marie

his wife their & assigns may do with enjoy & of the
bove mentioned nights as olf things to them proper
& belonging from this time & forever and the said
& maine his wife for and in
of the Clause conventions &
here in above made to them by the above named
widow of of Joseph deceaded, they promises,
obligate & engage themselves well & only to pay to
the said widow Brazean at the expiration of each
year from the day of the date of these presents during
her life time, the above mentioned same of three hundred
and fifty dollar lowful money of the united
states, moreover to fulfill in all its , the caluses
conventions of legacies mentioned in the said testament
conformably with their force & , moreover to leave
to the said widow Brazean during her lifetime the
Enjoyment of a negro named aged about
thirty years, who after the deceade of the said widow
shall as the property of the said and
his wife, conformably with the letter of the said
testament; and moreover, for & in Consideration of
the above & o the attachment which
the said Joseph Brazean deceaded during his life-time
has mainfested towards the said maria
, & of the lover tenderness & affection
which the said has for the said
Joseph Brazean deceaded her uncle & of the lover,
& attachment which the has named
& to the said widow of Joseph Brazean deceaded
the said & his wife
promise, obligate & engage themselves, that when the
happening of the deceade of the said widow of the said Joseph
Brazean deceaded, they will recognize, declare &
let free and will give deedy of freedom to the mulatha
aged about fifty years as well as to the
mulatha woman mariannes and to the children
whom she may have, that they may enjoy their
freedom and act and contract as free and independant
persons ``all which will appear by the
said agreement in corecting reference being
had, the record those of in the office of the
Recorder of St-Louis County book page one hundred
and seventy two and following.''

Your petitioner scater that she is the
daughter of the said mariannes, and as such she is
is legally & equitably to her freedom

dead on the twenty second day of July eighteen
hundred & thirty three that his wife the said

of July eighteen eighteen hundred and
eighteen, and that the said Brazean
died on the second day of february - eighteen hundred
and thirty four.

with Memories , Elizabeth Duchouguette ,
commonly called Ritta Duchouguette , who intermarried
with Baptiste , Brazean
Duchouguette who died without prior to the
death of his father Baptiste Duchouguette and
Duchouguette who intermarried
with and died on the twenty third
of november eighteen hundred and thirty three,
leaving from children, to with many,

On the thirteen day of July—eighteen hundred and thirty four,

your
petitioner protected against such a course, the
said him of One & Marie thezege
his wife hold your petitioner as a shame for life
to Henry Chouteam of the City of St Louis , who by
Virtue of his purchase holds your petitioner in his
service & can today as his slave and her of
her liberty contrary to teh intent and meaning of
the agreement in waiting above receited and
against the laws of this state.

She therefore prays that she may be
permitted to bring said as a poor person against the said Henry to establish her
freedom and that your hour will make such
order as will ensure to her
ths rights & privileges which under the Circumstances
of the case the law allows her.
