Whereas information has this day been given
to me upon the oath of Joshua and Thomas
of S. Louis that on the ninth of July 1820 a quantity
of Beaver & Racoonsskins & by some person or persons un
known taken stolen and carried away from the dwell

ing hosue of the in the county aforesaid, and that
the aforesaid, Thos & Joshua have probable
cuase to suspect and as suspect that the said goods or
part thereof are concealed in dwelling house or store the property
of and now occupied by John Oliver
at St Louis on said county- These are therefore to
authorise and require you with and proper
to enter in the any time into the House of the said
John Oliver at St Louis aforesaid on the County aforesaid
and there diligently to search for the said goods and of the
same or any part thereof shall be found upon such
that you bring the goods &c found and also the body of
the said John Oliver before me or some other person of
the for said County to be disposed of and
according to -

We the undersigned acknowlegde ourselves
and such of us and from each
other in now proper persons to stand in debled
to the united States of america in the sum if one
hundred Dollars to he lived severally of each
of our goods & chattles, Lands &
respectively upon the following conditions

The conditions of this recognizance is
such that if each of the undersigned do personally
appear at the next circit court to he holden
within and for the county of Saint Louis
on the first monday of the present month
then and there to gain such evidance as he
knoweth on behalf of the United State against
a certain John Oliver an a certain charge of
having stolen goods knowing there
to have been stolen wherewith the said John
oliver is charged and that neither he nor either
of them do deport without of said court
then these recognizance to be said else to
remain in full force

In the Circuit Court
August term 1820

St Louis County to wit: The Jurors for the
United States of American upon their with pre-
sent that John Oliver late of the said County
of St Louis Shopkeeper on the first day of July in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty
with force and arms at the town of St Louis , in the
County aforesaid a large quantity of beaver skins,
to wit, eighteen packs of beaver skins, of great
value to wit of the value of there hundred dollars
for each pack, and a large quantity of racoon skin
to wit, two packs of racoon skins of great value
to wit of the value of one hundred dollars for each
pack of the goods of certain persons
the name & style of the Missouri Fur
Company (but whose particular names are
to the Jurors aforesaid as yet unknown) then
& there being found, feloniously did steal take
and carry away, contrary to the form of the
statute in such case made & provided, and
against the peace and dignity of the United States
of America

And the Juror aforesaid upon their oath
aforesaid do further present that the said
John Oliver , on the first day of July in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty with force and arms, at St Louis in the County aforesaid
unlawfully and unjustly did receive and have, a
large quantity of beaver skins, to wit, eighteen of
beaver skins of great value to wit if the value of
three hundred dollars for each pack and a large
quantity of racoon skins to wit, two of ra-
coon skins of great value to wit if the value of
of one hundred dollars for eachpack, of the goods
and chattels of certain persons using the name
& style of "The Missouri Fur Comapany" (but whose
particular names are to the Jurors aforesaid as yet
unknown) then lately before feloniously
stolen, taken and carried away by one Geroge
the slave of Manuel Liza , he the said John
oliver, then there well knowing the same
to be stolen and unlawfully come by,
contrary to the form of the statute in
such case made and provided and
against the peace and dignity of the
United States of America .

YOU are hereby commanded to summon Frederick Smith
that setting aside all manner of excuse and delay he be and appear in proper person before the
Judge of our Circit Vourt, on theforthwithday of at the town of St. Louis ,
then and there to testify and the truth to say in a certain matter of cortroversy now pending in our said
court, wherein The United States plaintiff
and John Oliver defendant on the
part of the Deft and have you then and there this writ.
