William Clark , complains of
Joseph Richard . for this that the said Joseph , at the
District aforesaid on the thirteenth Day of July in the year
one thousand eight hundred and nine, by his certain
in ok of that by him with his own
proper mark, or signature thatothers made
and subscribed, promised the plaintiff as follows
"on Demand &promise to pay to Gen. William Clark
"agent for the Missouri Fur Company or his order
"the just sum of eighty four Dollars and seventy
"five cents for value received

Sheriff of the District of Saint Louis

We command you to take Joseph Richard if
he maybe found in your Bailiwick their your and him safely keep so
that you may have his body before the judges of our Court of Common
Pleas to be holden at the town of St Louis in & for the District
of Saint Louis on the first Monday of November next then
here to answer unto William Clark (for the use of the Missouri
Fur Company ) of a plea of trespass on the case to the damage
of the said William Clark the sum of one hundred and fifty
Dollars and have you then there this writ

Witness the honorable Silas Bent esquirepresiding
Judge of our said Court at the town of Saint
Louis aforesaid this Twenty fourth day of
July in the year of our Lord One thousand
eight hundred and nine& of our Independance

Know all Men by these presents that we Joseph Richard and-
Pelagie, PeletianVive, Morin , are held and firmly bound
Connor Sheriff of the District of Saint Louis his Assigns on Succssors
in Office in the sum of One hundred & fifty Dollars
Currency of the United States , to which payment
well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of
us by himself, our and each of our heirs executors administrators
and assigns, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals
and dated this Twenty fourth Day of July in the year of our Lord
One Thousand eight hundred and nine

The Condition of the above obligation is such, that if the
above bound Joseph Richard shall appear at the
Court of Common pleas- to be held at the Town of
Saint Louis - On the first Monday of November next
to answer unto William Clark , for the use of the Missouri Fur Company
in a plea of trespass on the case to hear damage
as it is said One hundred and fifty Dollars
and if Judgement be given against them at that or any said
segment term of said Court, that the said Joseph Richard
will pay the damages as aforesaid and costs, or the amount
of the condemnation of the Court, or surrender
himself in execution therof, or that she the said Pelagie PeletianVive
Morin , will do it for him then the above obligation to be
void, else to remain in full force and virture in Law
