plantiffs state that they hold a note on the defendant
Charles Bent in substance as followeth
for 500 dolls.

St. Louis July 7th. 1831

On or before the fifteenth day of November eighteen hun-
dred & thirty three. I p romise to pay to the order of Scott &
Rule five hundred dollars with interest at the rate of ten
per cent per annum from the 8th day of may last till
paid, without defalcation for value recd

yet the said debt remains unpaid wherefore the plain
tiffs pray Judgement for their & damage for the de
tention of the same together with costs.

Conty of St Louis :

William K. Rule one of the plain
tiffs in the above petition maketh oath & saith that he hath
a real subsisting & unsatisfied cause of action against Charles
Bent the defendant which is the same cause of action set out
in the above petition and amounts to the sum of six hundred
ninety eight dollars sixty two cents and further that the
plaintiff will be in danger of losing his debt unless the defendant
he held to bail: that said Bent is about to leave Missouri for
Mexico a foreign country(where he has been in the habit of dealing
for several years.) without leaving, to the knowledge or belief of the
affiant any property or effects in Missouri or making any provision
to pay recd debt, although payment, has been urged upon him by
this affiant recenty by request of the oweners of the claim
