Scott Rule, plaintiffs state that they hold a note on
the defendant Charles Bent in substance as follow-
eth.
"For 500 Dollars St. Louis July 7th, 1831
On or before the fifteenth day of Nov, 1834
I promise to pay to the order of Scott Rule five hundred
dollars with interest at the rate of ten per cent per
annum from the eighth day of Maylast till paid
without defalcation for value received

said Scott & Rule have a real and unsatisfied
cause of action against Charles Bent the defendant a
in the same cause of action set out in the above pe
tition and amounts to the sum of Six hundred ninety eight
dollars sixty two cents and further that the plaintiffs
will be in danger of losing their debt unless the defendant
be held to bail : that said Bent is about to leave Missouri for
Mexico a foreign country (where he has been in the habit of dealing
for several years)without leaving in Missouri , to the knowledge or be
lief of this affaint, any property or effects, or making any provision
to pay land debt, although payment has been urged upon him
by this affaint recently by request of the owners of the Claim
Sworn to and subscribed before me this28th day of April

demand of Alexander Scott and William K Rule heretofore partners under
the name and style of Scott and Rule as set forth in their petition of which the
