John Baptiste Prevertpresent by his attorney
complains of Manuel Lisa in a plea of trespass on
the case for that whereas on the fifteenth day of June
in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifteen
in the county of St Louis at the town of St Louis
the said John waspossessed of in his own right the
following goods and chattels to wit thirty two beaver
skins of the value of four dollors each of six racoon
skins of the value of fifty cents each and of eight buffaloe
Robes of the value of five dollars each and the said John
being so possessed as aforesaid at the time and place aforesaid
afterwards to wit on the same day and year aforesaid
casually lost the aforesaid goods and chattels out of
his possession and the said Manuel afterwards to wit
on the same day and year aforesaid at the place afore
said got and came to the possession of the same goods
and chattels by finding and the said Manuel
knowing the premises and that the said goods & chattels
do of right belong to the said John but intending to cheat the said John hath hitherto
wholly failed and refused to deliver the same to the said
John altho often thereto afterwards requested by the said
John to wit on the twentieth day of June in the year
aforesaid But the said Manuel did afterwards to wit
on the day last aforesaid the aforesaid
goods & chattels to his own uses and benefit wherefor
the said John says he is injured and has sustained one
hundred and eighty dollars damage

and whereas the said John on the first day of
January in the year aforesaid was possessed of in his
own right of other the following goods and chattels at
a place called the in the county of St Louis
one brown horse gelding of the value of seventy dollors (and

and One water craft commonly called a canoe of the
value of twenty dollars and also of ten bushels of Indian
corn in barrels to wit five bushels in, one and five bushels in
another of the value of one dollars per bushel and the
said John being so possessed as aforesaid at the place aforesaid
lost all of the goods aforesaid casually afterwards on the same
day and year aforesaid at the place aforesaid the same
out of his hand and possession and afterwards to wit
on the same day and year aforesaid at the place aforesaid
The said Manuel came to the possession of the said goods
by finding and being so posessed and well knowing the

We command you to summon Manuel Lisa if he
may be found in your County that he be and appear
the Judge of our Circuit Court to be holden
at the town of St Louis within and for the county of
S Louis on the second Monday of July next then there
to answer unto John Baptiste Prevert in a plea

of trespass on the case in to the damage of the said John
Baptiste the sum of two hundred eighty dollars dollars as he says and
have you then there this writ.
