Lecompte commonly called Pierriche Lecompte wherefore he
took two packs of beaver fur
the property of them the
said plaintiff & the same detained Therefore
the said
plaintiff by Carr their
attorney complain for that
wheras the said Pierre commonly called Pierriche Lecompte
at the county of St Louis aforesaid and within
the jurisdiction of this court at one certain Nicholas Lecompte insaid county took two packs of beaver skins with the fur on them & one small pack of
the same all of the value of five hundred dollars
the property
of them the said plaintiff & unjustly
detained them against gages & pledges until the
sheriff of the said county of St. Louis made delivery
thereof & thereupon the said plaintiff say they
are
injured five hundred dollars and
therefore they bring suit for

Chouteau, Cabanne & Company shall make you
secure you cause
to be replevied and
delivered to the said Chouteau, Cabanne
&
company two packs of beaver skins with the
fur on them &
one small
pack of the same all of the value of five hundred
Dollars the property
of them the said Chouteau, Cabanne &
company as they
say which said property is detained
by Pierre commonly called Pierriche Lecompte
if he may be
found within your bailiwick that he and
appear before
the Judges of our court of commons pleas to be holden at
the
town of St. Louis within & for the county of St Louis on
the
fourth monday in June next then and there to answer unto
Chouteau Cabanne and Chenin doing business under the
name style and firm of Chouteau Cabanne & company
of a plea wherefore the said Pierre commonly called Pierreche Lecompte took two packs of of beaver skinswith the fur on them and one one small pack of the same all of the value of
five
hundred Dollars the property of the said Chouteau Cabanne
& company and the said property detains
against sureties
& pledges to the damage of the said
Chouteau Cabanne
& company of five
hundred and have you then there this
