William Clark complains of
Charles Bourguion , for this, that the said Charles at the
District aforesaid, on the thirteenth day of July in
the year one thousand eight hundred and nine, by
his certain promissory note of that date by him with
his own proper hand writing, marks, or Signature then
and there pal made and subscribed promised
the plaintiffs as follows - on demand I promised
"to pay to Gen William Clark , agent for the

within your Bailiwick and him safely keep so that you have his body before the

next then there to answer unto William Clark for the use of the
Missouri Fur Company of a plea of trespass on the case to the
