the Term of July on the
year of our lord one
thousand eight hun
dred and nine
St Louis District Ss. Rufus Easton complains
of George Druillard for
this
towit, that
the said Rufus , on and before the
twenty third
day of September in the year
of our lord
one thousand eight hundred and Eight
at the
town of St Louis in the District
of St Louis and territory of
Louisiana
being an attorney and commission of Law
authorized and
licensed to practice in all
the courts of law in said Territory and
the
said George Druillard being then there un
der an accusation for
the Murder of
our Antoine Bagenet in consideration
that said Rufus
would then there under take
the cause of the said George as the
attorney
and counsel of the said George he said
George would pay
to him said Rufus for his
services in that behalf the sum of two
hundred dollars on demand towit at
the place and on the day and year
afore
said and the said Rufus in fact saith that
he then there
consented, to become the attorney
and counsel
of the said George in the
aforesaid prosecution by the United
States
against him on the accusation against him for
the murder of
the said Baginet as aforesaid
and defended him on the trial of the Judge
ment found in the said
prosecution against
him upon which he said George was afterwards
towit on the day and year aforesaid at,
the place aforesaid
acquitted in due forever
of Law. Nevertheless the said George
often requested and demanded has not
yet
paid to said Rufus the said sum , two
hundred dollars or any part thereof but,
the source or any part thereof to pay has
hitherto wholly refused and
still, refuses.
And whereas afterwards towit on the
day and year aforesaid at the
place
aforesaid the said George was indebted
to the said Rufus in
the sum of two
hundred dollars Lawful money of the
United States
for the work and labor
care and diligence by him the said
Rufus
before that time done performed
and he for the said George as as an attorney and counsellors of
the
said George upon the
and
at the special instance and request
of the said George in and
about the
prosecuting and defending suits
in Law and for fees due and of right
payable as such to the said Rufus
according to the account herewith
announced
and also for
divers, journies and
attendance by the
said Rufus before
that time taken made and performed
in and about the said wortk at the
like
request of the said George and being
so indebted he the said
George in consideration
thereof afterwards towit
on the same day
and year aforesaid
at, the
place,
aforesaid,
undertook, and
there then faithfully promised,
the said
Rufus to pay him the said last mentioned
sum of money on
demand.
Yet said George although often de
manded has not paid the
several,
sums of money before mentioned
but
the same to pay to him said
Rufus has hitherto wholly refused and
still refuses to the said Rufus his

and therefore he brings suit

The said Benjamin Wilkinson being
duly sworn upon the holy
evangelists
of Almighty God deposes and says that
to the
was put in preson for the alledged Murder,
of
Antoine
Baginot, he sent for deponent
to go and see
him and asked deponent whom
he defendant should employ as his
attornies
to defend him defendant on the aforesaid
charge and
deponent recommended the
defendant to employ Rufus Easton the
plaintiff and Edward Hempstead
said he would do if
find him on the trial of the aforesaid
charge state all the conversation
which
took place at the aforesaid time and place
