William Clark / who sues for the
use of the united states / complains of Horace Austin of
a plea of Trespass on the case for that the said defendant on the seventeenth day of august in the
year one thousand eight hundred Eleven at the town
and district of Saint Louis , by his certain promisory
note of that date by him by the name of Horace Austin
, and to the said William
then & there delivering promising him by the name of
Gen. William Clark to pay to him or order in five days from the date of said note the the sum
of one hundred forty eight dollars. value received

For the said Defendant though often required hath ever refusing the same form of
money to the plaintiff to pay to his damages for
the use of the United States the sum of three
Hundred Dollars Wherefore he sues.

he may be found within your bailiwick and and him safely keep so that you have his body before the judges of our
Court of common Pleas to beholden at the town of St. Louis
in and for the district of St. Louis on the first monday of
July next then and there to Answer unto William Clark for
the use of the United States in a plea of trespasson the case
to the damage of the & the sum of three hundred
dollars and have you then there this Writ

Witness the honbl Samuel Hammond presiding
Judge of our said court of the town of Saint
Louis aforesaid this fourteenth day of april
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and twelve and of our inde-
pendence the thirty sixth
