William Clark complains of Joseph
for this that the said Joseph at the District
aforesaid on the thirteenth day of july in the year one
thousand eight hundred and nine by his certain promissory
nor of that date, by him with his own proper mark on
signature then & there other subscribed, promised the plaintiff
as follows- On demand I promise to pay Gen william
Clark, agent for the Missouri Fur Company , or order the
just and full Sum of two hundred and fifteen Dollars
and ninety eight cents for value received St Louis July

Yet the said Defendant though often requested
hath even refused and doth refuse the same sum
of money to the plaintiff to pay to his Damage for

of Bail, and afterwards liberated him by order
of W.M Clark Agent for Missouri Fur

found within your bailiwick and him safely keep as that you may have his
body before the judges of our court of common pleas to be holden at the town of
St. Louis in & for the District of St. Louis on the first Monday of november
next then there to answer unto William clark (for the use of the missouri
fur company) of a plea of trespass on the care to the Damage of the said
William Clark the sum of four hundred Dollars and have your their there
then there
